Brighton & Hove U10s (228 for 7) lost to Burgess Hill U10s (265 for 8) by 37 runs.

The first game of the season saw the Under 10s visit Brighton & Hove CC on what was a windy Saturday morning. Captain for the day Hayden Wickwar won the toss and elected to bat first. Special mentions for Finley Brown, Oil O’Reardon, Millie Wickwar and Jake Armstrong who all managed to protect their wickets without being out. Hayden Wickwar was top scorer on the day with 14 runs (including 3 boundaries). Burgess Hill reached a respectable 265 runs with some good defensive play against what was an accurate and varied bowling attack.

When Burgess Hill took to the field, we bowled extremely accurately, restricting Brighton & Hove throughout their innings, with Henry Fortune, Lewis Howard and Jake Armstrong all bowling maiden overs which is a great achievement at this age. With over half of the team taking wickets, this is also a great sign that the bowling is coming along well. In the field, the whole team fielded exceptionally well with good attentiveness and team spirit, which is great to see.

In summary, a great win for the Under 10s with a terrific team performance.
