Lewes Priory U11’s (274 for 2) beat Burgess Hill U11’s (206 for 10) by 68 Runs (Cup match).

A glorious Sussex morning saw the U11 boys travel down to the Stanley Turner ground in Lewes for their first encounter of the season (and their first ever hard ball match). Captain for the day Hayden Wickwar won the toss and elected to put the opposition into bat.

The boys bowled and fielded exceptionally well with only 11 deliveries being either wides or no-balls, special mentions have to go to Charlie Vangelov who bowled 2 overs for just 2 runs and Ted Cornish who kept wicket like a natural, even though it was his first time in the gloves, both exceptional performances. The wickets went to Jake Armstrong and Henry Short, both clean bowling the oppositions’ batsmen great deliveries. Limiting Lewes Priory to 274 was a good effort against a very capable batting line-up.

Batting second we never really got going throughout the 20 overs with top scorer Jake Armstrong managing 5 runs and Hayden Wickwar and George Kaye being the only other batsmen to end with positive net scores. It must be said however, that the opposition had one of the best bowling attacks we have seen from opposition over the past couple of years, so the boys must not be dispirited.

Sunday sees us travel to St James’ where I am sure we will put in another solid performance.
