Role Description: Roles, Responsibilities & Expectations
Purpose of the Role
The Academy & Community Coach will play a vital role in inspiring participation, nurturing young talent, and strengthening Burgess Hill Cricket Club’s connection with the local community. This role focuses on junior coaching, pathway development, and school/community engagement to grow the game and provide opportunities for all.
Key Responsibilities
· Junior & Academy Coaching
· Plan and deliver fun, safe and engaging coaching sessions for junior teams (All Stars and age-group sides).
· Lead and support the development of academy players, helping them progress technically, tactically, and mentally.
· Tailor coaching to meet the needs of different ages and abilities, fostering a love of cricket from beginners to performance-level juniors.
· Support players with clear development plans, feedback and progression opportunities.
Pathways & Talent Development
· Work closely with age-group and senior coaches to ensure a smooth pathway from junior to senior cricket.
· Identify talented young players and support their development within the club and county pathways.
· Encourage player retention by creating a positive, inclusive and aspirational environment.
Community & School Engagement
· Act as the face of Burgess Hill Cricket Club in the local community.
· Build strong links with local schools, clubs, and community groups to promote cricket participation.
· Deliver introductory cricket sessions in schools and community settings.
· Support club open days, taster sessions, and local cricket initiatives.
Club Support & Events
· Assist with club coaching programmes, festivals, and events.
· Support the organisation and running of junior matches and training.
· Promote club values and create a welcoming environment for families and new players.
Expectations
Qualifications & Experience
· Minimum ECB Foundation Coach or Level 2 qualification (or working towards Level 2).
· Experience of working with children and young people in sport or education.
· Strong coaching, communication, and organisational skills.
· Knowledge of age-appropriate coaching principles and safeguarding best practices.

Commitment
· Regular attendance at weekly junior training sessions and match days during the season.
· Willingness to deliver school and community sessions during the week (as required).
· Involvement in holiday camps, taster days, and club outreach events.
· Attendance at relevant training, safeguarding and CPD activities.
Reporting & Support
· Reports to: Head of Cricket & the Executive Committee
· Supported by: Junior Coordinators, Age Group Coaches, Club Committee
· Access to ongoing training, mentoring and development opportunities through the club and Sussex Cricket.
