Role Description: Roles, Responsibilities & Expectations
Purpose of the Role
The Men’s Head Coach will lead the planning, delivery and review of the Burgess Hill Cricket Club men’s senior cricket programme. This role is key to developing player performance, building a strong and inclusive team culture, and driving on-field success across all senior teams.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
· Design, deliver and evaluate high-quality training sessions for all senior men’s teams.
· Develop players’ technical, tactical, physical and mental skills, supporting individuals at different stages of their cricketing journey.
· Work with players to set individual development plans and provide constructive feedback.
· Foster a positive, challenging and enjoyable learning environment.
Team Leadership & Match Preparation
· Lead match-day preparations, including warm-ups, strategy, tactics, and team talks.
· Support captains with match-day decision-making and player management.
· Contribute to team selections in collaboration with captains and selectors, ensuring fairness and alignment with club objectives.
· Develop and embed a clear playing philosophy and performance standards across all senior teams.
Pathways & Talent Development
· Support the transition of talented junior players into senior cricket.
· Identify and nurture emerging talent within the club and wider community.
· Work with age-group coaches to ensure a clear pathway for player progression.
Club Culture & Engagement
· Champion the club’s values and promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and teamwork.
· Encourage player engagement in training, matches, and club activities.
· Act as a role model and mentor for players, volunteers, and assistant coaches.
· Represent the club positively within the local cricket community.
Expectations
Qualifications & Experience
· Minimum ECB Level 2 coaching qualification (or working towards Level 3).
· Demonstrated experience coaching in senior men’s cricket.
· Strong technical and tactical understanding of the game.
· Experience in planning structured training programmes.

Commitment
· Regular attendance at midweek training sessions and weekend match days throughout the season.
· Involvement in pre-season planning, indoor training and winter programmes.
· Attendance at club meetings and engagement with the committee on cricket strategy.
Reporting & Support
· Reports to: Head of Cricket & the Executive Committee
· Supported by: Senior Captains, Selection Committee, Club Committee, and Assistant Coaches
· Access to ongoing coaching development and CPD opportunities through the club and Sussex Cricket.
