On a blazing hot day Burgess Hill took on Hellingly in the next round of the league 20:20 Cup competition.
Burgess Hill won the toss and batted , opening with Tom Trowbridge and the in-form Kevin Ramsay. They made a positive start but Trowbridge (11) edged behind to Rippengal off Adam Pye in the third over . Ramsay was joined by Kirk Proto and it wasn’t long before Ramsay was finding and clearing the boundary . Proto joined the party with a brisk 23 in a partnership of 70 before being caught by Hutchings off the leg-spin of Mc Donald . Hill , with the exception of Ramsay then wobbled , losing Joe Maskell , Aaron Barnes and Tom Penfold cheaply before Luke Vick (18)provided a steadying partner to Ramsay . Vick departed in the 19th over which left Ramsay time to score another 20 to finish on 92 not out . It was an awesome display of controlled hitting in an innings which contained five sixes and 12 fours !
Hill posted 177-6 .
Hellingly started at a canter as the hapless Peter Billinghay went for 17 in his first over . Hugh Warmisham had Harry Gape caught by Penfold and Hellingly were pegged back although Rippengal continued to attack before falling to Maskell for 32 . Wickets steadily fell as Hellingly tried to keep up with the required run-rate and Hill tried to assist them with a string of missed chances .
Hellingly succumbed in the eighteenth over for 132 giving Hill a comfortable win .
Warmisham , Billinghay and Rapson all took two wickets with Maskell taking three and Karl Boffey effecting a fine direct hit run out .
Hill travel to Premiership Preston Nomads for the quarter-final .
