An exciting game, full of good cricket played in exactly the right spirit by both teams resulted in the U9s winning against Hurst by some 50 runs. The Hill team comprised 11 players and Hurst immediately agreed that we would increase the numbers of overs so that all boys participated in the match.

The Hill team included 2 debutants, Edward and Shimmy and both boys did extremely well in their first competitive match. Our batting overall was very good, in particular Josiah and Shimmy excelling with a partnership of 33 runs in 4 overs. Hill reached an impressive total of 339 from their 24 overs.

However, the most pleasing aspect of our game was yet to come. The boy’s bowling was outstanding with the improvement from the early part of the season so marked. Good clean bowling actions resulted in far fewer wides and no balls, leading to Hurst being restricted to 288 runs in their innings.

So well done to Jonathan, Josiah, Oscar, Shimmy, Noah, Archie, Edward, Jake, Michael and Seb with special congratulations to Max who again captained well throughout, having spent Friday evening sorting out the pairs and the bowling and batting orders.

As always there are things to work on come Friday evening training – throwing into the stumps especially, catching and calling but that is for another day. Well done boys, thanks to Brian for umpiring and the parents for their enthusiastic support.
